Who are we?
The Department of Sociology at the University of Vienna has about 90 members of academic staff and offers a six-term Bachelor’s Programme and a four term Master´s Programme. Research at the Department of Sociology is influenced by the traditions of the Viennese School that focused on social problems.
How do we matter for CoAct?
In our research team within the Department of Sociology, we have conducted several participatory research projects with children and young people. We have successfully developed and adapted traditional qualitative and quantitative research methods to be used by young co-researchers. We focus on gender, decolonization and intersectional analysis around axes of inequality in our social science research.
Our role within CoAct?
UNIVIE will lead the Research and Innovation Action #2 Youth Employment in Vienna. We will work with youth aged 15-18 that are currently in supporting measures for early school leavers and NEET youth (Not in Education, Employment or Training) to investigate which measures and support services they think they need. UNIVIE will also be strongly involved in issues around ethics, such as how to produce better informed consent procedures, and the development of a citizen social science toolbox. Finally, UNIVIE will be involved in the evaluation and impact assessment of the methodological framework, the participatory research activities, and the project’s dissemination, communication, and exploitation strategy.
