Gender as a category of difference still structures our daily lives to a large extend. It permeates societal spheres from the spaces we live in, to the spaces we work in, to digital spaces online. While women in the EU earn on average over 16% less an hour than men, this figure becomes more extreme in Eastern European Countries. Digital spaces are equally gendered, with gender norms exacerbated online to the detriment of (young) women, whose experiences of online harassment have far-reaching effects on their online engagement. What that means on a concrete level for the lived experiences of affected people, and how these differences might be mitigated in community approaches will be the focus of this R&I Action.s.
Why Citizen Social Science for Gender Equality in Europe?
We will use the Citizen Social Science framework as a powerful bottom-up approach by facilitating new citizen-led initiatives dealing with gender equality in Berlin, Eastern Europe and Pan-Europe.
How will it happen?
In 2021, three Open Calls will be launched in order to foster Citizen Social Science projects on Gender Equality. Each call will have different gender perspectives, focusing on the following topics:
- Gender gap in affordable housing and urban planning SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities
- The gender wage gap SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth
- Opportunities and risks of digitalisation SDG 5 – Gender Equality
Civil society organisations, especially feminist and other grassroot gender movements (including non-binary ones), will be encouraged to participate. The selected participants will receive mentoring from our consortium partners.
