Call for Videos Shaping Citizen Social Science together

Citizen Science is Social!, a fringe event of the Citizen Science – SDG Conference, Berlin October 14 & 15.

We are CoAct and SoCis – a coalition of civil society organisations and university research institutes across Europe and Latin America.

We are working towards a new understanding of the unexplored field of Citizen Social Science, a participatory research approach co-designed and directly driven by citizen groups sharing a social concern, in which they become co-researchers. Citizen Social Science aims to bring together, and further develop, methods to give citizen groups an equal ‘seat at the table’ through active participation in academic research, from the design to the interpretation of the results and their transformation into concrete actions.

Together with YOU, we wish to frame the field of Citizen Social Science (CSS) and to build an international community of practice. A first step for this will be to ensure that a CSS approach evolves from the needs and relevance of and for the practitioner community.

THIS IS WHY WE WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU!

We are inviting you, civil society practitioners (NGO´s, grassroots movements, local communities, activists), to share your experiences and needs with us!

Your testimonials will be featured at the event Citizen Science is Social!, a fringe event of the international conference“Knowledge for Change: A decade of Citizen Science (2020-2030) in support of the SDGs”, 14-15 October 2020 and on the new community platform of the CoAct website.

SUBMISSION

Please upload your video to YouTube and submit it via this form. You can find more information on how to upload a video on youtube here.

ABOUT THE FRINGE EVENT

At the SDG conference SoCiS and CoAct will organise an evening event on Citizen Social Science. Here we especially want to show the diversity of the landscape of Citizen Social Science, which we know is bigger than the people engaged with us so far. This is why we are looking very much forward to your contributions.

We are aiming at showcasing the videos during the evening event of the Citizen Science – SDG conference, either as a selection or in an edited overall video. We can provide tickets to the full conference for the first 40 submissions of videos in line with the quality criteria outlined in the ‘How To’. All videos will be showcased on CoAct’s project website, building a milestone in our move towards co-creating a Citizen Social Science Approach.

Finally, sending your video can also be a first step to getting involved and being part of CoAct´s global community of practice. If you are interested to take part, state this in the form. You will find a question asking you about your interest to join our CSS community group.

ABOUT THE ORGANISERS

This call for videos is co-organised by the CoAct project, funded by the EU Horizon 2020 Programme, and the SoCiS project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. CoAct is a coalition of civil society organisations and university research institutes across Europe and Latin America that proposes a new understanding of the unexplored field of CSS as participatory research co-designed and directly driven by citizen groups sharing a social concern, in which they become co-researchers. We aim to bring together and further develop methods to give citizen groups an equal ‘seat at the table’ through active participation in research, from the design to the interpretation of the results and their transformation into concrete actions. SoCiS is a research and capacity building project that explores the functioning and innovation potentials of Citizen Science in the social sciences and humanities in Germany.
